I have been having trouble getting barley seed in my area. A farmer friend sold me a 48 lb bag that he had not planted. Now Im wondering if I should use it. I think I should be getting feed grade barley and not seeds for planting. Can anyone tell me? Thanks

As long as they haven't been treated. Post an ad on Craigslist that usually gets replies.

I ended up calling the company and they are not treated so I feel much better about using it. I also found a seller on Craigslist. Its about 50 miles away but if I get enough to last awhile I will be good! Thanks for the tips!

Well so far so good. Barley is sprouting and so are oats! The oats seem to retain water longer than the barley though so I havent rinsed them as much. I do have a fan going in the room because I have my pellet stove in the next room going because this is the winter that will never end here in Wisconsin! One question... when you rinse the seeds do you also mix them up a bit? I know that wont be able to happen once the mat starts but how about before? Heres a pic of my barley on day 2.

Old graymare sometimes with barley I soak 12 hours then soak the wheat a couple hours then mix them together or soak them both mixed together simetimes the oats are to mushy if I soak together for 12. Barleys looking good!

I am new to this stuff and I ended up buying seed quality barley that Indian govt provides for farmers. I went for that because I thought they would have better germination. Price for feed quality and seed quality over here in India is same and the feed quality ones aren't that clean.

I'm looking for feed quality barley seed in Nevada or online to have delivered. Any suggestions I'm in desperate need of good fodder seeds! My project continues to flop from continual findings of no good deed for various reasons getting frustrated!

I'm buying organic barley from Azure Standard. They are in Oregan and deliver once a month. The barley this year is from Canada.

I am not sure where everyone is located but i am in the panhandle of Florida and get my barley seed from Hancock seed in dade county. They also provide a lot of other seed for fodder as well. If there were enough demand I would purchase it by the pallet to make it more reasonable in this area. As a side note. Has anyone tried to sprout feed wheat seed and have you been successful? It is readily available here for 10.50 a bag so would be ideal if it would sprout for me.
