Sometime in the last two weeks, my pregnant la mancha doe who is now three weeks from delivery got a puncture wound on one of her back legs. The wound is also on a callous area. When I went to trim her hooves, I noticed that the callous was all dirty with hay stuck on it. I cleaned it and then this gooey, stringy, snotty stuff started to come out. It didn't look like CL at all. It looked like the stuff that comes out of your kid's nose when he/she's got a bad cold. It was extremely light yellow/green. The puncture area was a little hole too so that didn't sound like CL. Also, I've never seen her with a big lump on that callous so that also leads me to believe it's not CL. I cleaned her up and put some pure echinacea on it as that is all I had at the time and wrapped her up. Since then I got some neosporin. I am ashamed to say that I don't have a thermometor to take her temp. But I'm going to get one tomorrow. She's current on her CD&T shot. She's also due to deliver in about three weeks. I've also been giving her watered down echinacea with a tiny bit of apple juice orally. I should be doing this twice a day but some days I've missed. I discovered this last Saturday, Feb. 23rd. I don't like antibiotics unless it's absolutely necessary and I am willing if it's necessary. If an infection from a puncture wound goes unnoticed, will it build up this kind of puss? I am about to call the vet but wondered what you all thought.

Any puncture would can turn into an infection if it doesnt improve in a day or two since you've started caring for it you may have to call a vet, but usually a day or two of neosporin does the trick
