Greetings,
I am having issues with my fodder. I have 10x5' vinyl house gutters for my trays. They are auto watered...with extra light. I am using a combo of peas, wheat, and barley that I soak overnight then place into my trays. I am having less than 10% of the grain producing green and almost all of the peas. The peas that do not spout turns to mush. I am not seeing a lot of mold, but I do notice a fermentation smell. The water does turn brown and I am changing it (at least partially) frequently.
I do not want to use bleach or H2O2, etc. This is organic and I plan to add fish into this eventually.
Any suggestions?

The fermentation smell is normal so no worries there. I would try watering for twenty or thirty minutes twice a day. Lighting isnt needed. If this doesnt help I would try a different barley and wheat. When I started I bought small amounts locally until I found one that sprouted well and went with it until then I bought small amounts. Make sure the grain in clean and untreated which if its organic I assume it is. I usually have about a 90% sprout rate which is good. Once this is solved for you if you ever start getting mold it will be from the wheat as has been my experience. Try some black oil sun flower seeds with the peas they sprout well and have less germination issues. But Im laying odds on your grain supply. Hope this helps dont give up it just takes some tweaking!

Local grain is not option. We live in a very conventional small farm town. Only 10k people in the county. I got my seed from azure standard as anything like this must be shipped in. Any suggestions for a good supply?

Have you checked on the Seed Source section on here? If that isnt a help have you tried placing an add on craigslist? What is your location?
