Like any new feed give it time mix it with something you know they will eat I had to do this with my goats at first lol, you might also try waiting till their in the barn for the night and introducing it, since they are used to grazing

I wanted to know what seeds (Barley, wheat, corn) people are using for the fodder they feed their Rabbits, Goats and pigs, are they all getting the same kind, do you mix them? Help

I feed them all the same mix of corn, wheat or barley, black oil sunflower seeds, safflower seeds, and for the chickens before feeding them the sprouts I add flax seed, kelp powder, and fish meal lightly sprinkled over the top. I add alfafa to the mix when available.

Hi Ada! Hope all is well. Just wanted to stop by to see how everybody is? I was really happy on how the last batch turned out! The cows ate it with a little grain since it was new to them. But it worked out well. Please tell me if I owe you anything for the items you sent me. It was very wonderful for all the help you give me, thank you so very much!!!!!!! Well I'm going to try the wheat with that green tray and the fan in the room seem to help a lot too. I'll send more pic's on that. I hope to learn how to put pic's on the forum. But for now I'll send it on the cell. Everyone have a great evening! Mare

Hi. I'm new to this site and new to fodder growing. I have an 18 tray system I purchased from Fodder Feed Org. I now have my 1st week in with many questions. 1) My system is producing an extremely foul( think Dog poop) smell. Changed the water yesterday and it's just as bad today. I currently have 8 trays growing - 5 on day6 and 3 on day 4. Also an starting to grow mold. Initially I watered the system at the recommended rate of every 2 hrs for 15 min. After 3 days, I felt it was too wet and reduced the time to every 3 hrs for 15 min. Now have it on every 8 hrs for 15 min. How much water should a system receive? The system is currently in an east facing window. I understand that sunlight is not all that necessary for growth, this is just the place that was most suited and fit the best. I don't feel that I had good growth, now realize it is probably the wheat and I need to find a different source.Any help would be greatly appreciated. Carol

Hi Peace and welcome to the forum. The mold may settle down once you get the watering time adjusted. I'd say the every eight hours is a good starting point it can be adjusted up and down as the temps change. The smell is the fermenting of the grain you can try adding a few capfuls of bleach to your systems water and/or changing the water. This waters great for watering tour garden. Wheat can be a little problematic either feed it out at the first sign of mold or try mixing it with other grains and sprouting a mix like wheat barley and black oil sunflower seeds or jus wheat with black oil sunflower seeds.

Thanks. I can see that even with directions and assistance, this is an adventure in experimentation with my system/environment/and seeds! One more question, is activated Oxine an OK thing to use instead of bleach? I use it to sterilize my coop, so I have it on hand. It is a chlorine product.

I have never used it so I couldnt say.... give it a try and post how it goes for others to see. Wheat is one of the more challenging grains to sprout make sure your wheat is untreated.
